The Course

HENNERTON Golf Club was opened in 1992 by Bernard Gallacher in 1992, originally as a 9-hole course. He was delighted with the beauty of the countryside and the advantages made of the natural variation of the hills and the valley in the design of the course. Players of all standards are smitten with the course’s challenges which are only topped by the outstanding views of the Thames Valley.

The original 9 holes were designed by Colonel Dion Beard who was also involved in the design of Sandford Springs. We were privileged to have him as Honorary Chairman of the Club until his retirement in 1999.

In 2006, and after 4 years of planning and development, Hennerton was reopened as an 18-holes course – again to take advantage of this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The new part of the course was designed by Gaunt & Marnoch golf architects with special care being taken to safeguard the ecology of the site. These newer holes consist of holes 2 to 10 and have been built to the highest specification. The entire course has been fitted with a computer controlled automatic watering system to ensure that play is possible on the maximum number of days each year.

Our signature hole remains the 16th which is a Par 3, 183 yards long crossing a sharp valley. The green provides spectacular views of the whole surrounding countryside stretching over the Berkshire Downs from Reading towards Henley. Throughout the course you will find holes that intrigue and challenge, and a variety of contoured greens and terraced tees – such as holes 5 and 7 which drop into the valley whilst providing beautiful views within a particularly tranquil spot on the course.

Hennerton is a challenge to all standards of golfer, and despite the relative shortness of the course – which will truely exercise your short game over the Par 3s on the front 9 – the course will test your strategy, and will require a good degree of accuracy, as well as be highly enjoyable and never short of a stunning view or two.
